Bardio End-User License Agreement
Bardio is published by Legends Awaken Limited (the “Studio”). This agreement explains what you can do with Bardio and what we promise about it. It is intentionally short: read it once and you’re done. If anything in it is unclear, email support@getbardio.com.
By installing or using Bardio you agree to this agreement. If you do not agree, do not install or use Bardio.
1. Your licence
Bardio is proprietary software. The Studio grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide licence to install and use Bardio on devices you own or control, for your own tabletop-gaming use, whether personal or as a paid game master, on any number of your own devices. People at your table may use the remote-control pages that your copy of Bardio serves over your local network; that counts as your use. So do sessions you stream or record, monetised or not; what you may do with a bundled track in that stream or recording is governed by the track’s own licence (section 4).
This licence is perpetual and irrevocable, except as set out in section 8. There is no account, no server, no internet connection, and no licence check required to keep using Bardio: the copy you have installed keeps working, on your machine, for as long as you keep it.
2. What you may not do
Except where (and only to the extent that) applicable law expressly permits despite this agreement, you may not:
- sell, rent, lease, sublicense, publish, or otherwise redistribute Bardio itself;
- copy Bardio except as needed for your own permitted use and backup;
- remove or alter any of Bardio’s notices or identifiers; or
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble Bardio. Nothing in this section takes away a permission that a third-party component’s own licence gives you (section 4).
3. Your content
Audio files you add to your library stay yours, with whatever rights you already hold in them. Bardio reads them locally, to play and sort them, and claims no ownership of them and no licence over them beyond that. You are responsible for having the right to use any audio you import.
4. Bundled content, optional packs, and third-party components
Bardio ships with a curated Classic Fantasy library of music, ambience, and sound effects, and offers further packs as optional downloads from the Studio’s own server. Every track was composed, played, or recorded by a person, and each is credited in the app on the Packs page, with its licence. The tracks are used under their creators’ own licences: Creative Commons CC0 and CC BY. Those licences, not this agreement, govern what you may do with a track outside Bardio. What the Studio owns is the pack as a compilation: the selection, the scene placements, the sorting data, and the names; the compilation may not be redistributed as a pack. Nothing in this agreement adds any restriction to a track: whatever a track’s own licence allows, you may do, inside Bardio or outside it. Content you add yourself keeps whatever licence its creator gave it.
Bardio also includes ffmpeg, built by the Studio from the FFmpeg source under the GNU Lesser General Public License 2.1 with no GPL components and run as a separate, unmodified program for audio analysis (its licence text and the offer of its source code are in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES), a number of Node.js libraries under the MIT, ISC and Apache 2.0 licences, the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, and a built-in sound-recognition model (YAMNet, Apache 2.0). If you choose the optional “sharper ear” for sorting your own music, Bardio downloads a second model (CLAP, Apache 2.0) from the Studio’s server. The full lists and licence texts ship with Bardio in its THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES and MODEL-NOTICES files; those licences govern those components.
5. Data and privacy
Bardio runs on your own device and keeps your library, your settings, and your play history there. It sends none of them to the Studio or to anyone else. There is no account, no telemetry, no licence check, and no updater of its own.
Bardio uses the internet in two cases only, and only when you ask: downloading an optional content pack, and downloading the optional sharper-ear model. Both come from the Studio’s own download server (packs.getbardio.com), hosted by Cloudflare. Such a download is an ordinary web request: the server sees what any web download sends, such as your IP address and the file requested, and the Studio does not use that to identify you. Everything else in Bardio works with no connection at all.
Phones, tablets, and other devices you pair as remotes talk to your copy of Bardio over your own local network, not over the internet, and the Studio is never involved.
6. No warranty; liability
Bardio is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To that same extent, the Studio’s total liability arising out of or in connection with Bardio is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in this agreement limits any liability that cannot be limited by law (including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud). If you are a consumer, nothing in this section affects rights the law gives you that cannot be excluded or restricted, including, where the Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies, that digital content is of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described.
7. Refunds
Refunds for Bardio are handled by Steam under Steam’s refund policy. Nothing in this agreement limits any consumer rights you have under the law of your jurisdiction.
8. Term and termination
This licence lasts indefinitely. It ends automatically only if you materially breach section 2; on the Studio’s reasonable request you must then stop using Bardio and delete your copies. Sections 3, 6, and 9 survive termination.
9. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from it, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights of your country of residence.
10. Updates
The Steam version of Bardio is updated through Steam. The Studio does not run any separate auto-updater.
11. Changes to this agreement
If a future version of Bardio changes what this agreement describes, the Studio will publish an updated agreement through Steam with that version. A later version of this agreement does not reduce your rights under section 1 to the copy you already have.
